Top 5 Quarantine Releases

Naomi Sarah-Lee

Quarantine has been hard on everyone; Not being able to see your friends and hang out has been challenging. But one thing that has helped for sure has been new song releases from your favorite artists. Here are the top 5 quarantine releases.

1. Drivers License by Olivia Rodrigo

I bet by now most of you have heard ‘Drivers License ‘ by Olivia Rodrigo. The ‘High School Musical: The Musical’ star released her first single on January 8, 2021, and since then it’s been a hit with over 89.9 million streams worldwide. Making it to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart for four weeks straight, this song has had us in our feels and on repeat. Rodrigo demonstrates strong and impressive vocals, a slow and catchy beat, and some meaningful lyrics that go perfectly with it; this song is great to listen to! Hopefully, this talented rising star has more music in store for us for the rest of 2021 and, perhaps, an album.

2. Mood ( ft. iann dior) by 24kGoldn

Coming in second is another song you might have heard a lot lately with Mood by rising rapper 24kGoldin featuring Iann Dior. This song has been heard all over social media, especially on apps like TikTok and Instagram. With 25.4 million U.S streams Mood comes in right after Drivers License by  Olivia Rodrigo. This song gets you with its catchy beat and summer feel to it. I had this song on repeat all the time! If you’re looking for a song with a funky, chill beat, or if you’re looking for a new artist to listen to this is the perfect one.

3. Blinding Lights by The Weekend

This song is a personal favorite of mine. Making third on the Billboard charts with 1.6 billion streams, his catchy, fast-paced dance song with an 80s feel to it captures The Weekend’s strong vocals and range.  “Blinding Lights” is featured in his latest albums ‘After Hours’ and on his song collection album ‘The “Highlights”. ‘After Hours’  has 89 million streams, holds No. 1 on the charts, and has sold 90,000 copies. The Weekend brings a cool new feel with this song, much like his other popular song “ Heartless” from the same album. Can’t wait for what this talented artist has in store for us in 2021!

4. Levitating by Dua Lipa ft Dababy

This is another song with a funky and catchy beat to it and another favorite of mine. This track racked up 54.3 million radio audiences,  13 million streams, and since its release last October and this week, it has charted No. 5 on Billboard Hot 100.  Madonna originally teamed up with Dua lipa and Missy Elliot to do a remix on her Future Nostalgia track “Levitating”  but this new version featuring Dababy gives her take on the song. In this new version, she gives the song an electro-disco vibe with an equal amount of bubbly and sultry. The song is a great listen and hopefully, she has more projects with Dababy!

5. Positions by Ariana Grande

This last song on the list is another popular bop that I bet a lot of you have heard by now. “Positions'' is Ariana Grande’s third No.1 in just over two years, opening with 174 million streams. The singer has lately been changing her sound, and her look and giving us the same beautiful vocals with a different sound to them. Ever since the song’s release on October 30, 2020, it’s been played everywhere, including social media apps like TikTok and Instagram, and has been on everyone’s playlist. I haven’t been able to get this one out of my head. Hopefully, Ariana has more in store for us!
